Jewellery trend alert Polki heirlooms

Polki is everywhere. Celebrities have fallen back in love with the old world mystique of these uncut beauties again. The Ambani wedding showcased the versatile charm of these vintage jewellery traditions. Radhika Merchant was spotted wearing polki jewellery for her mameru, sangeet, and mehendi ceremonies. So did Nita Ambani, Sloka Ambani, and Isha Ambani, wearing iconic polki pieces from their fabled jewellery collection.

Polki has been a byword of elegance and timeless class for centuries. These pieces have been cherished as heirlooms. A jewellery tradition from Bikaner in Rajasthan, Polki jewellery has been a favorite since Mughal times. There are teams of artisans who are involved in creating a Polki piece, each specialists in engraving, sculpting, eenameling, and setting the delicate stone.

Polki uses uncut and unpolished diamonds, and the jewellery is designed around the diamond rather than the other way around. This gives the jewellery a unique appeal, as it is all different and original. Polki is a precise craft, and the craftsmen dedicate days to perfecting a piece. Though they are expensive, they are truly cherished by generations.

Modern designers have merged the exquisite workmanship of yesteryear with the sophisticated interpretation of modern brides to create a new design aesthetic. As these diamonds are more subtle, they are often preferred over the other design styles.

Amaera is a modern jewellery brand working with contemporary interpretations of traditional crafts.

M4marry spoke to the Owner of Amaera on the jewellery trends for the season.

What is the biggest jewellery trend seen this year?

Polki is becoming a popular choice for Kerala brides. Each polki piece is crafted by experts who seek to capture the beauty and brilliance of the stones used in the piece. Polki is a great jewellery option if you want to explore the interplay of colours in your bridal jewellery. These are uncut, unpolished, and unfaceted diamonds, often offset by emeralds, rubies, and sapphires. Brides are also experimenting with pastel stones. They are truly stunning artworks.

How has the jewellery trend changed over the years?

Most of the brides who come here have a firm outlook on how they want their bridal look to be. They are not necessarily looking at heavy pieces; it is more about what works for you and your vision of the wedding. This year, polki is a huge draw, as they can be enriched with precious stones and pearls, creating individualised pieces.

What are the popular design options in Polki?

Polki chokers are always popular, especially with coloured gemstones. We have found a lot of takers for rose gold polki pieces as well. Polki maang tikkas are becoming popular, as they were seen on a lot of celebrity brides this year. For non-bridal purchases, a statement polki ring is a good choice.
